Ability to enter extensions to phone numbers

We need the ability to enter extensions to phone numbers, like work or business numbers. I know I can change the phone format to unformatted but I would like like for the phone to be in a format and have the option to enter an extension. Perhaps this could be an additional field, outside of the phone number.
