Flag or indicator of which constituent record is the "master"

I've heard it suggested that a flag or indicator of which constituent record is the "master" record would be helpful. Even with merge and auto-duplicate matching functionality being introduced, duplicate records will find their way in somehow! There should be a way to know what's the original/best/true record for a constituent.



Would you find it helpful to have some flag or indicator of which constituent record is the "real one", the "golden record" that should be used as the primary for interactions or making updates in various areas, from the back office to front of the house? If so, where would you like to see this type of indicator show up, or how would you use it?
