While it seems like Altru is encouraging institutions to NOT create separate member levels for Seniors, but create a senior discount, the functionality limits you on MAJOR processes. You should be able to ID a record as a senior, military or educator (for example) and be able to attach automatic discounts and benefits to those determinations. For example, if my record is flagged as Senior, I would automatically receive 10% off membership in daily sales, online or in the auto renew function. This would open up auto renew to everyone (even those who get discounts) and get rid of the sloppiness of having seniors type in a code to check out online.
We do not use a senior membership level anymore, however it would be really great to have "identifiers" as this person has suggested. If a member is 65+, it would be very helpful to ask the member if they would like to renew with the senior discount. Perhaps this could be connected to the constituency codes.
We have had a lot of trouble with the way membership promotions are currently set up. It is incredibly difficult to figure out which membership promotion was used on a membership. In the transaction section, it can be found that a membership promotion was used and how much it discounted, but why doesn't it show the discount? It would also be helpful to report these membership discounts on the renewal letter export. Or, if the above idea of using a constituency code/ identifier is used, it would be helpful to have the "identifier" as one of the columns in the renewal letter.
