When the payment information on a recurring gift does not go through, missed installments build up. When that information is updated, Altru automatically charges for the missed installments without prompting you or notifying you that will happen.
So instead of someone starting up again and paying what they expect for that month, they will be charged for that month and every month they missed. Recently that resulted in one of our recurring donors being charged $120 over what they expected.
There are some time-consuming ways to avoid this, but this should not be the default. Even if it is the default, the user should be prompted and notified that this will happen.
