Change a donation payment to a membership payment

Please create an easy way to change a donation into a membership payment.

We often receive gifts from donors that appear as though they are meant to be for our annual giving campaign (special forms that come back in "Annual Fund" pre-printed envelopes). Later, we will hear from these donors that they intended for it to be their membership payment.

According to my chat with support, after entering a designated donation and committing the batch, it is impossible to convert it to a membership payment. We then have to add a $0 membership to the constituent's record, which gives us an inaccurate record. (The alternative was a complicated multi-step process which involved unlocking, and re-locking deposits to delete the payment.)

I would love a way to easily edit this designation.

THIS happens in our organization all the time and adjusting these both ways would allow much better customer service.

Agreed. And actually being able to do the reverse would be helpful as well. Sometimes, we have people at the front desk who take a large membership payment that should actually be part of our contribution tier patron society and we have to 'refund it' and 'resell it' so it shows correctly...

This has happened to us as long as I've worked in membership. People make online or mail donations that were intended to be membership payments, and we too have to add the $0 membership with a note. This happens frequently enough that a way to fix it would be a really big deal.
