Calculating membership retention rates

Since we have converted to Altru, we have had an ongoing
struggle computing our retention rate. We have used the Membership dues
statistics comparison report however I have not been able to manually recreate the
rates it is giving us, so I question whether it is an accurate representation
of our program. I have used the Membership Retention KPI however rates include
rejoins which our organization does not include rejoins in reporting our
retention rates.

Question: Can anyone tell me the formula that is used to
calculate the retention rate on the Membership dues statistics comparison
report?

With that said, it seems like all the retention/renewal
reports would be more functional if Altru was able to separate Rejoins and
Renewals. My suggestions/ideas would be....

  1. Add a filter to the Membership Retention KPI to include rejoins,
    yes or no.

  2. Add a rejoin column to the Membership Renewal Report or only
include those memberships that have an action of RENEW in the ‰ÛÏRenewed‰Û
    column

  3. Add a Rejoin box on the Activity tab vs. including Renewals and
Rejoins in the one box. OR add an Action (renew or rejoin) column to the
    filters within that box.
