My museum was actually looking into having a standalone iPad for
membersihp. We have a restaurant next door to us which offers discounts
to current members of our museum. There are also often times where an
individual is interested in becoming a member for the discount (and just
for the sake of joining the museum of course). The thing is, to become
a member, the person would have to walk all the way from the restaurant
into our museum to sign up, then walk all the way back to the
restaurant.
The distance between the restaurant and the museum is
not incredibly long, but it can be problematic for some of the elderly
folk. Because of this, we are considering stationing an iPad in our
restaurant for people to sign up. The iPad will have a web form,
allowing the person to choose a specific level of membership. After
registering, the receipt can be sent to the person's smartphone.
My concern is... Can this be done?
Of course, there are also some things I am concerned about with this idea:
- Since
having the ipad will be selling through a webform (online sales) I
need to find a way to lock navigation to strictly our website.
- Finding a way to physically print a receipt after a sale from the website (I'm certain some people still don't use smartphones)
- Finding a way to keep a record of those who specifically bought memberships from the restaurant.
I also have to inform that our restaurant does not use Altru. Any new members who purchased a membership will need to find a way to prove it to our restaurant employees, which is why I am seeking a solution for physical receipts.
I know this is a very very rough idea, and I'm really hoping there are solutions that can make this work. If anyone has done something similar to this using Altru, please let me know. I will be eternally grateful.
We are interested in a "kiosk mode" for an iPad or tablet. It would sit/stand near the front of our Museum where anyone can type in their contact info and we can send them a newsletter. Also, I like the idea of purchasing your membership right then and there to speed up the line process. If there was a "client interface" where clients could only be on one page and not venture to other areas of Altru this would be what I would call "Kiosk mode".
My museum is also planning to use membership kiosks. We want to place them in our museum shop (same reason as you mentioned, usually members want to renew/buy new membership for the discount), in the entry (sometimes we are so congested with standard check-in that having a kiosk would greatly help separate the people that want to buy memberships), and within our exhibit spaces.
We have not set them up yet, but I believe that iPads did not work with Altru for some reason. I believe my museum is planning to use a different tablet.
