With Membership Renewals, if downgrading, allow current level to run its full term (even if they renew early), but if upgrading, allow the upgrade to take effect immediately

We are running a big membership promotion this week (buy one, give one) and have noticed that the members that renew early but at a different level than their current membership have their current membership level changed to the newly purchased level. This means that members are losing benefits that they have paid for and others are gaining ones before the new membership term starts. Basically when a patron renews early their membership is being extended to the correct time frame but the membership level is getting overwritten with the newly purchased level.

I have a similar issue--so perhaps Altru could provide an option to organizations to make their decisions about when new membership level goes into affect for midterm upgrade-renewals and downgrade-renewals.

We definitely need a member to be able to continue to receive benefits at the higher level if they paid for them, even if they downgraded. Downgrade should only take effect on the expiration date of previous membership.

We allow members to take advantage of their upgrade benefits if the upgrade-renewal is during their renewal window (roughly 3 months until expiration), however if a member upgrade-renews very early in their membership, this always gives us a headache. When I am on the phone with the member, I advise them to upgrade their current term and then renew at their desired level, but this is hard to communicate for online transactions.
