Agreed. Very frustrating! I was told during configuration that having an add-on for an additional membership benefit (with additional price) would be better than making it an additional Membership Level. Now I've come to find out that there is a bug with Add-ons that means the price doesn't added in when pulling membership cards and renewals. Altru says they are fixing this, and in the meantime I now find out I also can't apply discounts to add-ons.
