Agreed - I had a donor put her and her spouse's name in the first name field - it created a new constituent account and wasn't marked anonymous whereas the old existing account was. They are not happy because they showed up in our annual report and wanted to be anonymous.
We really need this functionality. It creates inconsistencies when looking at the giving history of our donors.
