When a donor makes a gift that meets the criteria for a Contributions based Membership Program, it should trigger a Membership Transaction and the amount should be added to the giving total that appears on the constituent's membership page. Currently, the Membership Transaction only triggers and adds to the total when a membership change (ex. and upgrade) is triggered. This makes it harder to track how far a member of the program is from reaching the next membership level.
