Gender of constituents added from online sales

It looks like all of our constituents created from online sales have a gender of Unknown, even when their name is something in the name table, like Robert or Sarah. Is there any way to make sure the appropriate gender is assigned going forward? Or do we need to do a batch update to add the gender on a regular basis?

Auto populate gender fields using name & title for online orders Merged

For orders entered into Altru by our office, Altru will automatically update the gender of the constituent based on the name and/or title assigned. However, for constituents created by our online order system all genders are assigned as "unknown."...
