Currently, membership history on a constituent record does not give the whole picture. I propose that there should be a constituent view of membership information.
It would be much better if each constituent has a summary report of their membership history for each membership program. This summary should show:
-
constituent's past membership history, even if not currently on that membership
- If John was previously married to Jane and had a 10 year membership, then Jane remarried and replaced John with Jake on membership...John's record needs to show that he was in fact a member for 10 years.
- (currently if a member is not renewed on a membership, there is no evidence that the constituent was ever a member!)
-
membership history of constituent, not the membership
- John was single for 5 years and had a separate membership, then married Susan and was added to her membership for 3 years, the report needs to show that John was a member for 8 years.
- (Currently, John's record would show now indication that he ever shared a membership with Jane, even though that is 10 years of very important history. John's record would show 2 separate membership programs--a cancelled individual membership and an active membership with his current wife. The member since would be 3 years, even though he has been involved for 18 years.)
- Currently, "member since" is pretty misleading. We have a couple of memberships that are multi-generational. Grandma purchased the membership, added her adult children, then Grandma passed away. The membership says the family has had it for, say 10 years, but really it was Grandma that had the membership for the first portion.
