We have this functionality for Scheduled Events but not Special Events. Basically, for a Special Event, sometimes we want to shut off sales a few days in advance, but there's no way to do that. Furthermore, the only option to shut off online sales is to deactivate the URL. Users get an error message instead of a message saying "Tickets for this event are no longer on sale".
Yes, please! Just ran into this yesterday for a client. The only option is to set a calendar event to remind yourself to shut it off. Or change the capacity to so it comes up with "sold out" but change the language to read something like "tickets are no longer on sale online."
