Tracking Short Term Rentals (Lockers, Audio Guides, etc)
The post about using the merchandise section for non-merchandise items gave me a pie-in-the-sky idea for a "someday" version of Altru, and I'd be curious if anyone else could use it too. We do short-term rentals of various items at our front desk - things like wheelchairs, walkers, backpacks of kids' activities - for which we take down a name and email address (and in the case of the backpacks, the number of kids served) as well as an ID or other collateral. Patrons use them for a few hours and then check them back in to the front desk. We don't charge for these items, though we could potentially. I'm also thinking of museums that rent or check out listening devices, mp3 players, etc.
Since we try to eventually enter these people into Altru anyway, it would be lovely to have this functionality directly in the system someday. That way we could track usage on different days, record repeated renters, track how long items are being used, how often inventory runs out, etc.
