Query option: Constituency status field (constituency status = active or inactive)

I recently ran a very complex query that heavily involved the use of constituencies.  It seems to me that the most difficult part of using constituencies in queries is the 'date to' information.  In my case, I made it more difficult for myself by inverting my less than/ more than; one of those 'obvious after the fact' errors that leaves you chasing your metaphorical tail for three hours.

At some point during the chase, I started to wonder why there isn't a constituency status field, akin to the one for membership; active or inactive.  It seems like the system already has some kind of algorithm (or something) in place like this as it uses the end dates to drop constituencies from the top of the constituent record. If the constituency is 'up top' (date to greater than/equal to today Or blank) = Active.  Otherwise it's Inactive.
